Time for Ordinary Balochs to Wake up

It seems like Khan Kalat is riding two horses at the same time. On international front he is busy selling Gwadar port and Balochistan’s resources to higher bidder such as UNOCAL and other US oil and Gas companies and on the other hand he have send his son back home to hold on to the title of “Khan Kalat” and negotiate with Pakistan. How long these Nawab and Sardars fool the ordinary Balochs and get them killed for their personal games. Time for Ordinary Balochs to Wake up

Baloch Sardars are trying to fool world leaders

As you all know Khan Kalat organised a meeting of Sardars (Harbyar,  Akhtar  ) in London,  an effort that is seen as not  to squash out differences among them but to put a united front of Sardars to reduce and eliminate  influence of middle class, poor Baloch in the liberation movement. Sardars want to deny any space for non Sardars in any field, the message is clear to common people, it doesn’t need a genius to understand their cruel motto. They issued a joint statement signed and endorsed by paper organizations, to show  the world leaders that they are the whole and sole group representing  Balochistan and key stakeholders. In the event of any negotiations with Poki establishment or world bodies, Sardars will be on the table and we the common Baloch and middle class leaders and fighters and families who shed blood for their mother land will be denied a chair.

For Sardars common middle class, educated baloch is a threat to their control. We must counter sardars at any cost by appraising world leaders about cruel past.

We repeat again, these Sardars are coming together and joining hands for their own interests, not out of love for Baloch people and Balochistan. This is purely to control and squeeze Balochistan’s mineral resources and make money. Khan Kalat want to sell Gawadhar port to pustoons as per our sources, therefore we appeal to all common Baloch people to teach a lesson.

President of Baloch Society of North America pointed out in a email group that “Some of these orgs listed below, such as Baloch Liberation Movement, Balochistan United Front-IF, Balochistan Liberation Organisation and International Voice for Baloch Missing Persons are fake and #2 number Kaghazi (paper) organizations which we never heard about before. Beside BNP, BHRC and BRP, the rest are Iranian pro-federation small groups.

They are trying to fool State Dept, US ambassador to UNHRC and others that so they can claim that they are the real representatives of Baloch Nation so they can collect more dollars and put it in their pocket but we will expose their evil game and their faces.”

Appeal to World Leaders

We caution world leaders to be watchfull about these fake groups and selfish Baloch Sardars and not to fall in trap. The real people who are fighting for freedom are living in abject conditions in Balochistan with their sons and relatives thrown in jain and collecting bullet ridden bodies daily. While tese sardars are shouting slogans of freedom and independence in european capitals, their own family members are part of Pakistani establishment and singing songs of United Pakistan. These Sardars are playing double game.

A joint statement welcoming the US intervention

March 25, 2012
Baloch welcome US intervention at 19th Session of Human Rights Council of the United Nation’s in Geneva, to support Baloch concerns over deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan. On 14th of March 2012 at the 19th Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva Mr Mehran Baluch and Ms Nina Petek of World Environment and Resource Council made and read their interventions on appalling human rights situation in Balochistan.
Shortly after Ms Nina Petek’s intervention, exposing the systematic discrimination of Baloch people and unjust exploitation of resources by Pakistan, the representative of Pakistan as usual was on point of order to stop the intervention on the grounds of two principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The US representative at the 19th Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva immediately stood on point of order to support Baloch people’s concern on appalling violation of human rights in Balochistan. He intervened by asking the President of the Session that the representative of the NGO, Ms Nina Petek should be permitted to proceed with the intervention. The US representative affirmed that despite Pakistan’s objection, “the intervention was addressed to the subject matter”.
The intervention by the US representative confirms that contrary to the view and policies of Pakistan, the issue of human rights is a universal subject in which perpetrators, for this matter Pakistan can not and must not be allowed to shield behind the “cited principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
On the same day, 14th of March 2012 at a press conference at the White House, the President of the US and the Prime Minister of the UK reaffirmed that human rights is universal and the violators will be brought to justice no matter how long it takes.
Baloch people and Baloch leaders welcome whole-heartedly the intervention of the US representative at the Session in Geneva, and consider the stated approach of the US President and the Prime Minister of the UK as long-awaited, necessary, encouraging and in the right direction to address the human rights issue. Since violation of human rights is a criminal and deplorable act, the gravity of the violation of human rights of people, necessitates intervention by the international community to protect life and property, whether it is in Bosnia, Congo or for this matter in Balochistan. Baloch people also greatly appreciate the supports and the effort of the NGO’s which are assisting Baloch people to raise awareness at international forums and institutions.
Baloch people seek and urge for firm international intervention to protect them from slow motion genocide and from the crimes against humanity in Balochistan, orchestrated and committed by Pakistan and Iran; and to bring an end to the ongoing, countless and frequent enforced disappearances, torture, killings and dumping of the mutilated and executed bodies of innocent Baloch people. Therefore Pakistan and Iran must be stopped by unambiguous international interventions.

Khair Baux Marri’s gatekeeper is ISI man

Khair Baux Marri’s  gatekeeper  is ISI man. When any visitor from Balochistan visits his house in defence area the  gatekeeper takes all information and pass on to ISI office over phone.  People at ISI office cross check the visitors information and takes decision whether to allow the visitor to let in or not. In most of the cases we learned from relatives that agencies simply pick that person and make them disappear. Many Bugti tribe members and fighters have disappeared after  visiting Khair Baux Marri.

DO NOT VISIT KHAIR BAUX MARRI’S HOME IN KARACHI.

The question is whether Khair Baux  Marri know that his gatekeeper is a ISI man. This is just another instance to prove that Khair Baux Marri and his sons are hand in glove with ISI and Pakistani establishment.  Pokistani Government and ISI are nether scared of KB family nor Mengal family, the only man they are scared of is Brahmdag Bugti who is currently in Switzerland.

Remember, My dear common Baloch brothers, these Sardars control all fronts- Freedom Movement, Political Parties, Socio-economic. We are used as pawns in their grate game, never trust these Sardars, having said that, we appeal you all to come forward and take charge of leadership for transformation of our lives. Our only weapon to accomplish this is 3 things- Education, Education, and Education.

FIGHT NOW TO OPPOSE THESE OPPORTUNIST SARDARS AND NAWABS.

Beware of Khan Kalat: Playing double game, planning to sell Gwadhar port

First of all lets’ be realistic. Let’s not call it a “ILLEGAL OCCUPATION”, as It is not an illegal occupation but was willful deliberate and voluntary merger of Khan Kalat with Jinnah of Pakistan. Khan Kalat did signed the document of accession on his own free will to please the prophet Mohammad (PBUH) after seeing him in his dream. He did it to prove that he is a good Muslim. He signed on the death warrants of millions of Baloch despite the fact that the both Baloch upper and lower houses voted unanimously to stay free and independent.

Balochs, Protesting against Pakistan, should also protest against Khan Kalat and his family for selling Balochistan to Pakistan.

This was not the first time Khan Kalat have sold Baloch land. In 1883, the Khan of Kalat sold the Quetta district and adjoining territories to the British government. Alongside the land, it was also an outright sale of the people, like a herd of cattle. Heirs of Khan of Kalat were also obliged to adhere to this hire purchase arrangement. He received an annual grant of Rs. 25000 for selling the most attractive part of Balochistan to the British government. The irony is that non of the money received was used for the welfare of ordinary Baloch people. No any Road, Hospital or School was built to help the ordinary Balochs, but was pocketed as personal wealth and was used to build palaces.

In 1783, the Khan of Kalat sold Gwadar to Taimur Sultan of Oman. On September 8, 1958, Pakistan purchased the Gwadar back from Oman for $3 million. Gwadar officially became part of Pakistan on December 8,1958. At the time, Gwadar was a small and underdeveloped fishing village with a population of a few thousand at that time.

Let’s not forget, It was again Mir Ahmed Yar Khan in Kalat who weighed Qaid Azum Mohamad Ali Jinnah and his sister into Golds and Silvers and give it to them as gift where the ordinary Baloch slept in hunger with empty stomach.

The lust of selling Baloch land and resources continue as the current Khan Kalat Mir Suleman Daud Khan recently sold a piece of priceless diamond-studded Baloch crown and a centuries old carpet of Kalat palace, that belonged to Baloch National heritage, to multi millions dollars in Dubai and bought himself a nice home in Cardiff, U.K for cash.

That was not enough. Khan Kalat is currently busy joining hands with Afghanistan’s Northen Alliance Warlords to sell the Balochistan’s natural wealth and Gwadar port to higher bidder such as UNOCAL and other oil and gas giant companies in exchange for to re-establish his monarchy (Khanate), over the bullet riddled dead bodies of Baloch people, with the help of some Iranian thugs and Jundullah terrorists, by suing the fancy slogan of Azadee, but Baloch Nation will not let them succeed in their evil game. Balochistan belong to Baloch people not to Khans, Nawabs and Sradaras.

On one sdie Khan Kalat shouting slogan of Azadee (freedom) from London, but at the same time his son Prince Mohammad Ahmedzai is sitting with Commander of Southern Command Lt-Gen Alam Khan Khattak, Balochistan Assembly Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani,Governor Magsi and provincial ministers and senior military and civil officers celebrating Pakistan Day. May be Khan Kalat can explain why his son was celebrating “Pakistan day” and what does this mean of riding two horses at the same time? How long they will fool the ordinary Balochs??

ISLAMABAD: Balochistan is considered to be a neglected province where a majority of population lacks basic amenities, but the ruling elite of the province has an entirely different story.

Many members of the club have pieces of land greater in size than some small towns of the country, using precious vehicles rarely seen even in big cities and having more glamorous lifestyle than even royal families of the Arab world.

According to a statement of assets and liabilities submitted to the Election Commission for 2010-2011, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Khan Raisani uses a luxury sport utility vehicle (Hummer H2) gifted by an unnamed friend from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and a Harley Davidson motorcycle brought to Pakistan after a waiver on customs duty. The price of Hummer and motorcycle has been cited as Rs180 million and Rs3.2 million, respectively. He has two other vehicles, including a land cruiser.

He owns a safety and security firm and a mining company with a capital investment of Rs106.5 million. He also owns over 30 properties valued at Rs150 million in his own and wife’s name.

The Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs, Mir Zafar Ullah Khan, owns 24,338 acres of land, most of which he has inherited and is yet to be distributed. He has Rs51 million in two bank accounts and owns Rs20.7 million house.

The Minister for Building, Agha Irfan Karim, owns four properties, including a farm house, 150 acres of agricultural land and a house in Quetta, but has not mentioned the price, just writing “not evaluated” in the remarks column against the detail of immovable property.

He owns two diamond-studded Rolex wrist watches, two more with gold and silver, 10 diamond-studded cufflinks and 200 tola of gold.

Pir Abdul Qadir Algilani owns 3,200 acres of land in Kalat and Lasbella, and an under-construction farm in Lasbella on 400 acres. His other properties include a two-acre hut in Gaddani. The Pir also has Rs33 million. He has mentioned investment in stocks, too, in his statement.

His other properties include two coal mines, three manganese mines, one cooper mine and one iron ore mine in his own and his wife’s name.

Pir Abdul Qadir has 300 guns issued by the Ordnance depot of the GHQ as his mother’s inheritance from Khan of Kalat, her father. He also owns antiques and gems of unspecified quantity and value.

The Minister for Fisheries, Mir Hammal Kalmati, owns assets worth Rs238 million. He owns seven properties worth Rs238 million and has over Rs28 million in bank accounts.

However, in contrast to most of the cabinet members in Balochistan, the Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Tahir Mehmood Khan, has assets of Rs86.5 million in Quetta. He has jewellery valued at Rs1.5 million and Rs63,600 in two bank accounts.

Jan Ali Changezi has no immovable property in or outside Pakistan. The total worth of assets, including furniture, jewellery and cash in hand and bank, comes to Rs1.6 million.

Muhammad Ismael Gujjar owns property worth Rs19.65 million. He has not mentioned the value of a dairy farm, eight commercial vehicles and two unspecified Pakistan-made cars of 2011 models and one Japan-made car of 2007 model. He has around Rs400,000 in two bank accounts.

Sardar Masood Ali Khan owns assets worth Rs235 million, including commercial and residential property, and 500 grams of gold ornaments. He owns no car.

The total worth of Mohammad Younas Mullazai’s assets, including a house and a commercial plot, is Rs5.5 million. He too owns no car.

Ali Madad Jattak has put at Rs7.3 million the value of his house and 18,000 sq feet land he had purchased after selling livestock — 48 camels, 23 cows and buffalos and 525 goats and sheep valued at Rs15.34 million. He has Rs0.5 million in cash and owns no car.

Ainullah Shams owns a house, agricultural land and open plots worth Rs 12.6 million, but has no bank account and owns no car.

The most valuable thing under possession of Molvi Abdul Samad is his car worth Rs350,000 followed by the share in a house mentioned as Rs50,000. He has put the value of furniture in his use at Rs200,00 and holds the same amount in cash as well. He has Rs3,800 in his bank account.

Syed Matiullah Agha has Rs9.1 million in his bank accounts. He has put the value of his four properties, including agricultural land and plots, at Rs4.5 million. He has an automobile engineering business in Karachi and owns a shop in his village. He also does not own a car.

Asfandyar Khan Kakar has an open plot in Pishin he purchased in an unspecified year for Rs2.8 million, with a present market value of Rs7 million. He has Rs575,315 in two bank accounts, but has no car.

To forfeit the independence of a Nation is a worse kind of human right violation in the human history. Balochistan, was an independent, secular and democratic country before March 27, 1948, forcefully occupied by Pakistani Army, since then Baloch people are fighting to regain their independence from this illegal occupation by Pakistan and Iran.
Pakistan and Iran are conducting slow motion genocide in both Eastern and Western Balochistan so as to silence the voices of secularism, democracy and world peace in the region.
We are inviting, all the progressive and peace loving people to attend the event. The event will be attended by a wide variety of experts coming from different walks of life to share their views and opinions on the subject of how Balochistan was occupied and how this current occupation of Balochistan by Pakistan and Iran have changed the region’s socio-economic growth, democratic values, and peace for the decades and why an independent and free Balochistan is vital for peace and prosperity for the region.

Topic of the Event:

“Illegal occupation of Balochistan on March 27, 1948”

Betrayal of a common Baloch

Air Cdre Khalid Iqbal (R)

For a common Baloch, it has all along been a tale of deception and treachery. He has always been treated as a commodity, bought and sold at the whims of exploiting tribal chiefs. While the Baloch Sardars have had a history of enthusiastically selling land and people of Balochistan to the British government, there was hardly any support from them for the idea of Pakistan. On the other hand, the ordinary Baloch populace gave full approval for the creation of Pakistan. Same parallel streams representing clash of interests dominate the Balochistan landscape even today— hapless common Baloch, and opportunist tribal chieftains.

Former are overwhelmingly patriot Pakistanis and the latter are always on the lookout for new buyers of Baloch people and land in exchange for paltry personal gains. In 1861, Jam of Bela allowed the British government to setup a telegraph line through his territory, thus helping the British government, substantially, in consolidating its control over large areas of Balochistan. He also took the responsibility to safeguard the telegraph line. Compensation that Jam received was less than Rs. 900 per month.

Sardar Mehrulla Marri sold all mineral and petroleum rights of Khatan region to the British government in 1885 for a paltry sum of Rs. 200 per month. Again there was no time limit to this agreement, it was in perpetuity. In the same year, the British government paid Rs. 5500 to the Bugti Sardar for his cooperation although it was not specified as to what kind of cooperation he extended to the British government.

Original Balochistan comprised of 4 states of Brahvis and Baloch known as Turan till 1700 AD. In 1754, Ahmad Shah Durrani, king of Afghanistan, named Nasir Khan, who was a Brahvi, as ‘Khan of Kalat’ and allowed him to rule, Kalat area. Khan is not a Baloch world; rather it is a Pushtun title. Later other Brahvi/Baloch sardars were also brought under Khan’s control. In 1854, all these 4 states went under British suzerainty in exchange for Rs 50,000 a year. In 1896, the British who had captured Afghanistan in 1876 carved out ‘British Balochistan’ by drawing Durand Line and merging some territory of Afghanistan with Marri Bugti areas and a portion of Sindh. It was directly ruled, as a Commissionerate, through an Agent to Governor General. The Baloch/Brahvi states were allowed to be run as a loose federation by the Khan of Kalat, with a British Major as ‘Resident’ in Kalat.

In 1947, old Balochistan was designated as Kalat Division. British Balochistan, alongside a part of Sindh, was designated as Quetta Division. These two divisions were ruled as part of West Pakistan till 1970. Present day Balochistan came into being once ‘One Unit’ was abolished in 1970. The Quetta and Kalat divisions were merged to name them, Balochistan. Naming of this province as Balochistan was contrary to ethic realities of the landscape, it was indeed a merger of two distinct territories each housing a distinct ethnic group. Pushtun and Baloch are co-partners in the stakes of Balochistan with almost equal numbers. Total population of Balochistan is between 7 to 8 million. This counts for 5 percent of Pakistan’s population. Landscape of Balochistan is almost half of Pakistan. This low man-to-land ratio coupled with poor rail-road infrastructure supports sustenance of exploitative socio-political structure, centred around tribal chieftains. Hence, it is not surprising that tribal chieftains oppose infrastructure and services related development projects. Marri and Mengal Sardars first stood up against the Pakistan government when the law was passed to abolish Sardari system in Balochistan to free the ordinary Baloch from the clutches of their tribal leaders.

During the Russo-Afghan war, the Soviet Union was surprised by the ability and resourcefulness of Pakistan to generate a spontaneous resistance movement in Afghanistan. To punish Pakistan and to answer back in the same currency, Kremlin decided to create some organizations that would specialize in sabotage activities in Pakistan. One such organization was BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army), it was built around the core of BSO (Baloch Students Organization). BSO was a conglomerate of left-wing students in Quetta and some other cities of Balochistan.

The BLA which the Soviets created remained active during the Russo-Afghan war and then it disappeared from the surface, because its main source offunding – the Soviet Union – vanished from the global scene. In the wake of 9/11, when the United States came to Afghanistan with little preparation and less insight, it felt the need to create sources of information and action that should be independent of the control by the government of Pakistan. Most of the elements of such structures were in place, though dormant; and it was not difficult for anyone with sufficient resources to reactivate them, hence the present-day BLA was reborn.

In January 2002, the first batch of ‘instructors’ crossed over from Afghanistan into Pakistan to set-up the first training camp. It was a modest effort comprising only two Indians, two Americans, and their Afghan driver-guide. They spent the next couple of weeks in intense consultations with some Baloch activists, and then the work started for setting up a camp. Late Balach Marri was one of good boys of Soviets; he was now available for sale to indo-US nexus. Kohlu was picked as the first base because of Balach. The mountains between Kohlu and Kahan belong to the Marris.

First shipment of arms and ammunition was received from Afghanistan but as the number of camps grew, new supply routes were opened from India. The small arms and light equipment are mostly of Russian origin because they are easily available, cheap, and difficult to trace back to any single source. American defence contractors, CIA operatives, instigators in double-disguise, fortune hunters, rehired ex-soldiers and free lancers etc are playing their role in shifting money, material and men mainly from Afghanistan and India to Balochistan. By 2005, the pay structure of militants was elaborately defined. Ordinary recruits and basic insurgents got around US $200 per month, the section leaders got upward of US $300 and there were special bonuses for executing a task successfully. Presumably, now they are paid much higher sums. BLA is not the only fish in the pond. There are others as well: Baloch Ittehad, PONAM and a number of other smaller players are actively doing the bidding of their respective pay masters. Pakistani people and the federal / provincial governments need to align themselves with the common Baloch and capitalize on their good will to salvage thesituation. Starting points could be resolving the missing persons’ mystery and provision of jobs to the youth. Correcting the public perceptions onmissing persons would radiate a message of good will and provision of jobs would free the common Baloch from the exploitative clutches of the opportunist chieftains. Let’s join hands to empower a common Baloch! —The writer is international security, current affairs analyst and a former PAF Assistant Chief of Air Staff.

Are Islamabad and petty government servants our uncles to dictate against the decision of Bugti jirga

While he (Shahzain Bugti) blamed the security agencies and FC for all the ills in Balochistan, he had an unconvincing answer to the question about the rolling back last year of the Police Order of 2002 and allowing the Levies, which are under ‘Sardars’ (chieftains), to play a key role of maintaining law and order in the province.

Shahzain Bugti said the order replacing the Levies with police was an ill-conceived decision. “We have a system and tradition in Balochistan; Islamabad cannot impose new laws and change on us.”

In reply to a question about the issue of ‘Kalpars’ (people of the Bugti sub-clan expelled from Dera Bugti), he accused the federal government of interfering in the affairs of the Bugti tribe.

“Are Islamabad and petty government servants our uncles to dictate against the decision of Bugti jirga,” Mr Shahzain said, adding that elders of the tribe representing 150,000 individuals had taken a decision to expel 700 Kalpars.

“The will of jirga and the majority has to be respected.”

Shahzain Bugti, who is currently in Islamabad, is holding meetings with leaders of political parties to discuss the Balochistan issue. On Thursday, he met a US embassy official in a hotel.

“We have a system and tradition in Balochistan; Islamabad cannot impose new laws and change on us.”

SARDAR WATCH:  Mr.Shahzain Bugti ! Does this system continues in independent Balochistan? To put it bluntly will sardari system continues?

This is the attitude of sardars, therefore we can conclude that if and when we get independence, each and every one of us who talk against sardars will be kicked out of Balochistan or make our family slaves for rest of generations. Our enemy is these sardars, who oppressed baloch people, denied education, pushed into dungeons, no economic, social development. Do you people, common baloch, educated, moderate support or bet our lives and future in the hands of such senseless, illiterate sardar morons?

There are better options for us and for our children. My dear fellow baloch, only way to salvage is thru education and socio-economic development, not dancing to the tunes of these cunning, selfish sardars. We the middle class educated baloch must be in forefront in freedom struggle, instead of handing over control to sardars. Its is hard to imagine what these sardars will do to us in an independent balochistan. Before they consolidate their power, we must mobilize under one umbrella and start taking control and become formidable force.

We are for independent balochistan, we are for a freedom, development, education for all, equal right for all ( including sardars), religious tolerance. We at SARDAR WATCH appeal to all saner elements in balochistan, oppose vehemently these crass sardars and save our children from their sardari system imposed under the grab of democracy.

Beware of sardars, to hell with sardari system.
